The US currently has $13.8 trillion in debt. That’s $44,918.74 for every man, woman, and child in the country.

Put another way, if there were a man-made structure in existence to contain them; It would take 20x the amount of oil released in the Deepwater Horizon (BP) spill to fill the same amount of space as our debt (in $1 bills).
